Hotpot is so famous in China that it expands wildly into different ingredients. It was my first time hearing that braised stock could be used as a hotpot base, so I came to try it immediately. Goose is already a fantastic choice for winter nourishment, but enjoying it in a hotpot made with rich braising sauce was truly next‑level.

🗺️The restaurant is located on the B1 floor of Donghai Plaza in Chegongmiao, just steps away from Chegongmiao Metro Station, making it extremely convenient to visit. The name is Cheng E Goose Legend.

A Unique Braised Goose Hotpot Experience
The braised hotpot was surprisingly flavorful, and the broth came to a boil very quickly, so there was no long waiting time. The rich, aromatic braising sauce created a deep, savory base that paired perfectly with every ingredient.

Goose Intestine — Crisp and Sweet
The goose intestine is a must‑order. It only needs eight seconds in the pot, and the result is crisp, chewy, and naturally sweet. A perfect texture.

Goose Meat — Tender and Fun to Eat
The goose meat was fatty, tender, and full of flavor. The fatty parts, once cooked, had a soft, cotton‑like texture that was surprisingly delightful.

Old Tofu — A Pleasant Surprise
The old tofu was one of the biggest surprises. I initially didn’t expect much, but it turned out to be excellent — firm on the outside, soft on the inside, and full of layered texture.

Ham Slices — Unexpectedly Delicious
The ham slices also exceeded expectations. After a quick dip in the hotpot, they tasted almost like roasted ham — salty, fragrant, and incredibly satisfying.

Rice Noodles — Smooth and Flavorful
The rice noodles were silky and lightly seasoned. They were delicious, but they shouldn’t be cooked for too long, or they may absorb too much salt.

Other Ingredients
The prawns only need three to four minutes and come out fresh and sweet.

The vegetable platter even included cherry tomatoes to help cut through the richness. I really enjoy the flavor of mushrooms. When you add spicy sauces to them, the taste changes completely — it brings out their natural freshness and sweetness in a whole new way.

The set meal also includes drinks: Salted plum lemon tea. It was sweet‑savory and refreshing, perfect for balancing the heavier flavors.
Overall Dining Experience
Overall, the experience was excellent. I never expected braised sauce to work so well as a hotpot base, especially when paired with the three classic Chaoshan dipping sauces. It was simply outstanding.
The restaurant is spacious, clean, and comfortable, with plenty of seating that makes it ideal for gatherings. The service was also impressive, with staff members being attentive, friendly, and quick to assist.
This is a place I would strongly recommend, and it’s definitely a restaurant I’d return to.
